Commitment to Indigenous Women, Safety, and Reconciliation

Campbell River and North Island Transition Society is committed to creating safe, respectful, and inclusive spaces for Indigenous women, children, and families. We recognize the ongoing impacts of colonization, systemic racism, and gender-based violence, and we acknowledge the strength, resilience, and leadership of Indigenous women in our communities.

Through intentional relationship-building, community engagement, and listening to lived experiences, we have worked to earn trust and to provide services that are culturally safer and more responsive. Our approach is grounded in respect, humility, and accountability, and we continue to learn how to better support Indigenous women in ways that honor culture, identity, and self-determination.

We are actively working toward reconciliation by examining our practices, challenging systemic barriers, and partnering with Indigenous organizations, Elders, and community members. This work includes improving representation, increasing cultural awareness, and ensuring Indigenous women feel seen, heard, and supported within our programs and spaces.

Our goal is to increase safety by creating environments where Indigenous women feel welcome, believed, and empowered — spaces rooted in respect, dignity, and care. This commitment is ongoing, and we remain dedicated to walking this path together with openness, integrity, and responsibility.
